The history of The Geranium House began in 1900, when Percy Collier (Collie) Perry's father built this home, that is rich in history, on 100+ acres that he transformed into a working dairy farm. The original dairy barn remains standing quietly behind the guest cottage today.
Many years later Collie and his new wife Jewel Valentine Powell (Mixie) moved into the house. Collie endeavored to plant an orchard consisting of 187 trees including 7 varieties of peaches, plums, pears and apples at the age of 90 years young. The orchard was in production from 1976 - 1995.
In 1982 the proprietor, Nancy Andree, purchased this historic 2240 sq. ft. home sitting on 3 acres. The house has experienced many restorations, remodels & updates as Nancy's vision has grown. This warm and inviting home has retained it's original wood work and shiplap, which is exposed in various rooms throughout the house giving character and charm to the home.
Nancy is a former 4th grade Special Education Teacher. She resigned her position to go to the mission field after the tragic death of her 21-year-old son. She served as an AG Missionary Associate teaching at a Christian School for the Deaf in Managua, Nicaragua for several years.
After returning to the U.S., Nancy cared for her dear friend, Helen Carbone, the granddaughter of actor Jefferson DeAngelis, who was in Vaudeville from the 1890's until the 1930's. Ms. Carbone remained in Nancy's care until her passing in April 2014, at the age of 104.
Nancy has added to the home some of her own history with antiques given by her mother, Ann Wagner of Bethlehem, PA, coupled with heirlooms from Helen's maternal grandmother, brought back from England during the 19th century, and some of her mother's from the early 1900's.
Though minutes from restaurants, cinema and shopping, The Geranium House is nestled quietly in trees surrounded by open fields. You will find yourself experiencing an atmosphere of nostalgia from a by-gone era as you stroll through this tastefully decorated and furnished B&B which opened August, 2013. Our lunch is served on 19th and 20th century china and silverware, in the Tea Room, that opened June, 2014.
Your stay at The Geranium House will be an experience long remembered!
